Monika Wysoczańska joins ELLIS Unit Warsaw

We are delighted to welcome Monika Wysoczańska to ELLIS Unit Warsaw, further strengthening the Unit’s growing expertise in computer vision and multimodal machine learning.

Her appointment marks an important step in expanding our research capacity in areas that are central to contemporary AI, particularly those concerned with how systems learn rich, transferable representations from complex visual and multimodal data. Monika brings with her not only an outstanding academic track record, but also extensive international research experience and strong connections to leading industrial research labs, making her a valuable addition to the ELLIS community in Warsaw.

Monika is a Research Scientist at valeo.ai, where she focuses on visual representation learning and multimodal alignment, two areas that increasingly shape how machines perceive and interpret the world across different data modalities. Her work sits at the intersection of computer vision and machine learning, contributing to the development of more robust and adaptable AI systems.

She completed her PhD at Warsaw University of Technology, during which she collaborated internationally through research visits to the valeo.ai team in Paris and the Imagine group at École des Ponts. She also gained industry research experience through internships at Google DeepMind, in the team led by Cordelia Schmid, and at Booking.com.

Monika holds an MSc in Computer Science from Warsaw University of Technology and a BSc in Systems Engineering from Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

Her research has been presented at leading venues in artificial intelligence and computer vision, including CVPR, ECCV, and AAAI. Beyond her scientific contributions, she is actively engaged in fostering a more inclusive research community. Notably, she co-organized the Women in Computer Vision Workshop at ICCV 2023 in Paris, supporting greater diversity and visibility within the field.

Her arrival strengthens ELLIS Unit Warsaw’s research in multimodal learning and computer vision, and we are excited about the perspectives and collaborations she will bring.
