ELLIS Unit Warsaw Welcomes Dr. Tomasz Steifer

ELLIS Unit Warsaw is pleased to announce that Dr. Tomasz Steifer has joined the unit, bringing with him a distinctive blend of expertise in machine learning theory and computational social choice.

Dr. Steifer is currently a Team Leader at the Centre for Credible AI at Warsaw University of Technology and serves as an assistant professor at the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences. His academic path spans several international research environments, including postdoctoral work at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Instituto Milenio Fundamentos de los Datos, as well as research visits to LaBRI, University of California, Berkeley, and University of Bristol.

is research orbits around the theoretical foundations of machine learning, with a particular focus on the expressivity and learnability of transformer models, as well as the design of new architectures. He also explores the rich intersection between artificial intelligence and collective decision-making through computational social choice.

Dr. Steifer’s work has been presented at leading venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, AAAI, and COLT, reflecting both the rigor and reach of his contributions.

His arrival strengthens ELLIS Unit Warsaw’s commitment to advancing fundamental AI research, especially in areas where theory and societal impact meet.
