Przemysław Biecek joins ELLIS Unit Warsaw

ELLIS Unit Warsaw is pleased to announce that Professor Przemysław Biecek has joined the Unit as a new member.

Przemysław Biecek is a Full Professor in engineering sciences specialising in mathematical statistics, affiliated with both the Warsaw University of Technology and the University of Warsaw. At the Warsaw University of Technology, he serves as the Director of the Center for Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence. He earned his PhD in mathematics from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology in 2007 and completed his habilitation in 2013 at the Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 2023, he was conferred the title of Professor of Engineering Sciences.

His research focuses on responsible and explainable artificial intelligence, with particular emphasis on model interpretability, controllability, and verifiability, as well as data visualization and machine learning methods used in medicine. He is the author or co-author of more than 200 scientific publications, including monographs, and the creator of widely used open-source tools for model interpretability.

Professor Biecek is also active in science communication and education. He founded the Smarter Poland Foundation, promotes data literacy and evidence-based decision-making, and works to bridge statistical science with software engineering and responsible AI practice.
