ELLIS Unit Warsaw Lecture Series: Prof. Wojciech Samek
We launched our new ELLIS Unit Warsaw Lecture Series, created to provide a platform for leading researchers from the European AI community to share their work and exchange knowledge with researchers and students in Poland.

The inaugural lecture was delivered by Prof. Wojciech Samek from ELLIS Unit Berlin on 29 June 2026 during the Machine Learning Summer School on Reliability & Safety in Kraków.
In his lecture, The Science of Understanding AI: From Explanation to Control, Prof. Samek explored methods for understanding the decision-making processes of modern AI systems. He discussed how explainability research can move beyond describing model behaviour towards developing methods that enable more effective analysis and control of artificial intelligence.
The event marked the beginning of a new initiative through which ELLIS Unit Warsaw will invite distinguished researchers to present current developments in machine learning and artificial intelligence, while strengthening scientific exchange across the ELLIS network. We thank Prof. Wojciech Samek for inaugurating the series and all participants who joined us for its first lecture.
