A network gathering in three Dutch cities

This year’s retreat was jointly hosted by the ELLIS Units in Nijmegen, Delft and Amsterdam, offering a dynamic setting for discussions on strengthening the scientific and organisational foundations of the ELLIS ecosystem. Participants included coordinators from 21 ELLIS Sites, the ELLIS Operations Team, thematic area leaders, and representatives of connected European initiatives such as ELSA and ELIAS.

Programme highlights

Day 1 at Radboud University in Nijmegen opened with a series of scientific talks and a poster session showcasing current research across the network.
Day 2 in Delft focused on strategic updates regarding the PhD and Postdoc programme, membership processes, mobility opportunities and communications. Roundtable discussions invited units to share experiences, reflect on challenges and explore new avenues of collaboration.
Day 3 at Amsterdam’s LAB42 highlighted university-industry cooperation. A keynote on fostering impactful partnerships and a set of practical case studies offered concrete insights for units across Europe. The retreat concluded with an informal gathering on the canals of Amsterdam, celebrating the network’s growing cohesion.

Strengthening “AI made in Europe”

The retreat confirmed the importance of continued coordination across the ELLIS network as it expands and evolves. Participation from ELLIS Unit Warsaw contributes to shaping shared priorities, exchanging best practices and deepening ties within the European AI research community.

We look forward to implementing new ideas and strengthening collaborations inspired by this year’s retreat.
